Getting Started
The Southwest Arkansas Regional Archives (SARA) is located in the former Washington Elementary
School, 201 Highway 195 South, Washington, Arkansas 71862, adjacent to Historic Washington State
Park. SARA is a branch of the Arkansas History Commission, the state archives, and is open for research
to those interested in Arkansas history. The staff does not undertake research requests from the public.
Upon arriving at SARA all patrons must sign the guest register. First time visitors will be asked to complete
a registration form, for which a valid driver's license or other current photo identification is required, and will
receive a permanent research number. The patron will use this number when signing the register or
requesting materials.
It is possible to make copies of material from paper and microfilm, except where restrictions apply. The
restrictions concerning copying are listed in Rules of the Arkansas History Commission.
