Livy Bailin is a 2008 graduate of Little Rock Central High School, and has completed her freshman year at Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. This summer, she is working in the conservation area making dropped-spine clamshell boxes for many of the History Commission’s scrapbooks. Livy worked in the Wellesley College Library conservation facility during the school year.
Shannon Keith is a Little Rock native and a graduate student focusing in archival studies at the University of Texas School of Information in Austin, Texas. She is assisting the Commission in developing the interior layout of the Northeast Arkansas Regional Archives in Powhatan.Shannon will present this work to School of Information faculty and guests in a poster session in Austin on August 12.
Ashley Hobson of Texarkana, Texas, is working this summer at the Southwest Arkansas Regional Archives at Washington, Hempstead County. She is a student at Mid-Western Nazarene College at Olathe, Kansas. Ashley is transcribing the Freedmen’s Bureau records from the Washington office, which oversaw the bureaus in five counties in southwest Arkansas.
The Commission is greatly benefitting from the hard work these students have given to the tasks assigned. They are preserving valuable Arkansas history resources, making them available to the public, and planning for the future of the State Archives. The State of Arkansas, and those interested in its history, will reap the rewards of this work.
